NOTE: The stats / story are somewhat incomplete as I did not get to this game until midway through the second inning.
The Byron Bears picked up their third consecutive win with an 8-0 Friday night win over HVL rival Stewartville at Byron Middle School. Pitcher Evan Vick picked up the complete game shutout allowing just one hit and five strikeouts ( in the time I was there ).
The Bears struck for two runs in the first inning (which I did not see ), one run in the third inning and five in the fifth inning. The third inning run came off the bat of Noah Splinter who’s two out double drove in pinch runner Greg Hartzler. Hartzler was running for catcher Noah Schutte who had singled ahead of Splinter. Hartzler also stole a base in the inning.
The five run fifth inning started with a single from Jared Holm. Holm then moved to second on a balk and to third on a base hit by Jonny Mracek. Holm scored on a double steal that put Mracek at second base who then scored on an RBI single from Tommy Jensen. After a pitching change and Jensen’s steal of second base, Noah Splinter’s single drove Jensen in for a 6-0 Byron lead. After a walk to Ryan Thompson, Isaac Jestus hit a 2 RBI double to complete the Byron scoring for the game.
Byron is now 3-1 on the season and plays at Lake City in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11AM. Stewartville falls to 2-3 on the season and will resume play on Monday hosting Chatfield in a 5PM game.
