The Northfield Raiders upped their record to 3-5 on the season (1-1 in the Big 9 Conference) with a dominating win over the Hutchinson Tigers Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field in Northfield by a score of 18-1. Nine different Raiders scored at least one goal in the game, but Griffin Loecher easily won the day’s scoring race with a total of 6 goals.
Northfield started their avalanche of goals with five in the first quarter. Loecher and Quinn Beithon each scored two goals in the quarter, and the fifth goal was scored by Jackson Cloud.
The Raiders’ best quarter was the second in which they scored a total of six goals. Again, Loecher scored two goals. Single goals were also scored by Beithon, Cole Dornbusch, Theo Lucas and Jase Simon to take Northfield into halftime with an 11-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Loecher added his fifth and sixth goals of the day, along with Jase Simon’s second goal for the Raiders. Hutchinson was able to break up the shutout with a goal by Sebastian Vailancourt.
The final quarter, saw Jase Simon get his hat trick. Nick Kvernmo, Ben Papke and Jackson Schuerman also added goals for the Raiders to make the final score a whopping 18-1.
The Raiders will host the John Marshall Rockets, who are also 1-1 in the Big 9 Conference, on Monday in a make up game starting at 6PM. The Hutchinson Tigers will next play on Wednesday against Monticello in a home game that will begin at 6:30.
Note: As I was late getting to the game, and the game was essentially decided early on, I took the opportunity to experiment with a new longer range zoom lens. I didn’t always get the shots I would have liked or should have captured, and there may be a higher percentage of close-ups than usual but that’s what happens in a blowout.
