It was a great start to the final week of the regular season for the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights. Despite some lousy, late fall-like weather, the Knights pulled off a six inning 10-0 win over 12-3 Lyle/Austin Pacelli behind a four hit pitching performance by Gavin Roosen. Roosen also struck out seven batters while walking just one in his outing.
K-W picked up 13 hits in the game, 3 by lead-off hitter Jake Whipple who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, 3 stolen bases and scored twice in the game to lead the Knights offense. Ted Androli, Connor Sviggum, Drew Sathrum and Gavin Roosen each picked up two hits in the game for K-W. Jordan Hart was a perfect 3 f0r 3 for Lyle/Austin Pacelli.
After a one run first inning for the Knights with Drew Sathrum picking up an RBI with a single, K-W scored three runs in the second inning. A suicide squeeze play scored Ethan Benda and gave Dylan Craig an RBI, followed by an RBI triple by Ted Androli to score Connor Sviggum, and a single by Jake Whipple to send Androli across the plate gave the Knights a 4-0 lead.
The fourth inning was also a good inning for the Knights as they scored four runs that essentially put the game out of reach. Connor Sviggum, Ted Androli and Jake Whipple each had RBI singles ( Whipple’s single scored 2 ) in the inning.
K-W’s Connor Sviggum was 2 for 2 in the game with 3 runs scored, a walk and an RBI. Ted Androli was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored.
Kenyon-Wanamingo’s record now stands at 13-5. They will resume play today at Hayfield before closing out the regular season on Friday hosting Triton. Lyle/Austin Pacelli will resume play on Thursday when they will travel to Hayfield for a 4PM game.
